Greenmark is proud to be supporting City of Parramatta in their exciting initiative to transform Parramatta Farmers Market into a plastic free event!
Centered within Parramatta’s bustling CBD finds you the community’s most anticipated weekly event – the Parramatta’s Farmers Market! Every Friday from 7am, Centenary Square converts from a simple walkway into a local hub for fresh produce, baked goods and delicious lunch meals.
While the market offers a range of goods, there is still an evident need for disposable food packaging, where an abundance of plastic waste has contributed to polluted community areas and harming surrounding wildlife.
Rather than accepting the use of single-use plastics, the City of Parramatta Council has launched a project, collaborating with local businesses to help facilitate a sustainable solution!
We’re proud to be supporting City of Parramatta in their exciting initiative to transform Parramatta Farmers Market into a plastic-free event!
During the 10-week plastic-free transition, Greenmark will be educating stallholders and attendees on food packaging and the benefits of switching to compostables. What’s more, the introduction of organic waste bins will allow the collection and conversion of food waste and compostable packaging into fertiliser and green energy via EarthPower’s organics recycling facility.
Aligning with the market’s core values which include sustainability, education and community health, this event stands as a great initiative to pave the way for future collaborative events, moving towards a plastic-free Parramatta.
It’s fantastic to see the council taking action to combat the plastic waste issue and stallholders embracing sustainability for the community!
